BMO Harris Bank to end debit-card points program Business card

BMO Harris Bank said it’s ending its debit-card points program due to the impact of a new law limiting a certain type of fee.

Rewards points have been considered endangered at many banks since the government issued new rules related to the costs — called interchange fees — that merchants pay to card networks when shoppers use debit cards. It has been long expected that new limits put on interchange fees will cause banks to curb or kill their debit rewards programs. The changes are part of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform & Consumer Protection Act.

“A recently enacted federal law, commonly known as the Durbin Amendment, will have a significant, industry-wide impact on debit cards and the debit card benefits we’re able to provide you,” the Chicago area’s third-biggest bank says on its website.

Cards affected are Harris Debit MasterCard, Harris Platinum Debit MasterCard, Harris Debit MasterCard Fresh Start and Harris Debit MasterCard BusinessCard.

The amendment, named for Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, would require that debit swipe fees “be reasonable and proportional.”

In June, the Federal Reserve issued a final rule establishing standards for debit card interchange fees, capping them at about half of their previous levels. It takes effect Oct. 1.

What is the standard size for designing a business card; in inches, centimeters and in pixels?
If I design a card in coreldraw and want to save it as jpg/bmp image what options should I choose to have best resolution and good for printing?

A standard business card is 2 x 3.5 inches. I would suggest using adobe illustrator (I’m not familiar with corel draw) to create vector graphics which can be easily manipulated.
