Numerous intelligently engineered technologies have made the Sony AIT-5 tape more durable and cost efficient than other technologies. Sony SDX5-400W is the smallest tape cartridge when compared with other tape formats of same recording capacity. The small Sony AIT-5 cartridge records massive amounts of information which is 400GB (uncompressed data). Data is transferred onto the AIT-5 tape cartridge at 24 MB/second (compressed rate). When the data is compressed, the Sony AIT-5 tape cartridge’s recording capacity will increase to 1.04TB.

MR tape heads are very advantageous, reliable and have the ability to support higher recording densities. MR head assist the AIT-5media cartridge to pack more data amounts. The quality of signal read-back is elevated by the innovative dynamic tracking system employed in AIT-5 tape format. The function of the dynamic tacking mechanism is to control the position of the MR (magneto-resistive) head when it is reading the data.
